Deekshant: Graduation Day 2016-17

Shridevi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Tumakuru organized Deekshant – Graduation day 2017 on 18-5-2017. During the Deekshant-Graduation Day-2017, 390 Bachelor of Engineering students, 27 M.Tech students and 60 MBA students received the Graduation Medals.

Dr. S. G. Sreekanteswaraswamy, Executive Secretary, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. During the Graduation day address Dr. S. G. Sreekanteswaraswamy said that there are vast avenues for the under graduate and postgraduate students to pursue their career in the upcoming fields of technology such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Internet of Things (IOT), Big Data and Nanotechnology.

He also advised the graduates to device the new technological solutions for handling and management of waste in cities like Bangalore where BBMP is spending 700-800 corers every year. Providing the clean drinking water to the rural society is a big challenge where the Engineering and Management graduates could contribute for the development of the Nation and society in line with the dreams of Prime Minster Narendra Modi. He stressed on the revolution of Engineering Education in the state and the country starting with the establishment of Institutions like Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore which played the role of Mother Institution with the donation of 400 acres of land by the then Maharaja of Mysore State Naalwadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar, also contribution by Jemsetji Tata.

He referred to starting of University Visweswaraya Engineering college, Bangalore by Sir M visweswaraya the then dewan of Mysore state. He called for the Civil Engineering graduates to understand and assimilate the challenges of Civil engineering through the marvels of Civil engineering such as the first of its kind narrow gauge Railway line bridge between Tandavapura and Nanjanagudu which was designed by British Engineers.

Finally He said that the Engineering and Management graduates should respect the culture of India, Parents, Teachers and elders which will take them to success in life.

The Principal of the Institute, Dr. Gurulingappa M. Patil administered the oath of graduation day and advised the students to take up the higher studies to be able to sustain the competition of tomorrow’s world. He also advised the graduates to remember the Alma mater throughout their life.

Dr. H. B. Phani Raju, Vice Principal delivered the welcome address. Dr. S. M. Shashidhara, Director -student welfare proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Chandrasekhar N, Dean - Academics and Dr. Chandrappa C P, Dean - R&D and other HoDs were also present during the ceremonial programme. Ms. Deeksha and her group presented the invocation song. The programme was anchored by Professor Prabitha D K. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
