Shridevi Institute of Engineering & Technology (SIET), Tumakuru, Karnataka is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka and Approved by AICTE, New Delhi. Many of our students have obtained excellent marks in the university examinations and are in great demand in the industries in India and abroad.
The Campus
SHRIDEVI INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY was established in 2001-02 iand s located in Tumakuru City. Tumakuru is one of the District Head Quarter of Karnataka. The campus is spread over natural landscape of 70 Acres. The site is very healthy and beautiful & being away from city atmosphere is free from pollution. The city is located at 65 Km from Bengaluru, The Capital City of Karnataka State. The nearest airport is Bengaluru. The college is situated on Tumakuru – Mumbai Highway 5 Km from Railway Station, $ Km from Bus stand. Nearest Airport is KEMPEGOWDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, DEVANAHALLI, BENGALURU.
The Environment
Co-curricular activities play an important role on the campus. The individual departmental associations organize workshops, seminars and group discussions. These promote self reliance and ability to work together as members of a team. Students are also encouraged to participate in cultural activities. The college considers inculcation of proper values as an integral part of students’ personality development. Personality Development programmes are conducted, as well as, campus interviews are held to help students to find jobs.
The Infrastructure
The institute has an excellent infrastructure. All the departments are well equipped with good laboratories. The institute has a very good academic ambience. The Students are punctual and regular in attending classes. Modern facilities are used for effective teaching such as LCD projectors, Over head Projectors and interactive CD’s. A central computing facility and internet with high speed connectivity of 20 MBPS leased line which is kept open for the students daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The Faculty
The institute has well experienced and highly qualified faculty in all disciplines. It strives for the enhancement of academic performance of the students. With the changing time, there has been a revolution in the conduct and delivery of engineering education. The management encourages for acquiring higher education by sponsoring them. The faculties undergo summer/winter schools/workshops/training programs etc. to upgrade themselves. The faculties are actively involved in research and development activities, consultancy projects, writing of books and paper presentations/publications of national and international levels.
Academic Vigilance
A separate office of Dean Academics, headed by a senior faculty member looks after the academic activities with the assistance of two staff members. The Principal conducts periodic meetings of faculty to review the syllabus coverage, students attendance report and their performance in terminal examinations. Three tests in a semester are conducted and after each test the progress reports are sent to the parents. Students counseling is also a part of dean office activities.
Academic Excellence
The teaching learning methodology is given more thrust for improving the qualitative and quantitative standards of the institute which rightly reflects in the University results. Our students regularly feature in the University Rank lists in all the disciplines. Meritorious students are awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
Industrial Visits
The Institution facilitates number of industrial tours to give first hand exposure to students on best industrial practices.

INTERACTIVE SESSION ON FLY ASH

Fly Ash produced in thermal power plants can be made useful


The managing director of Karnataka power corporation Ltd G Kumar Naik IAS, stated that Fly Ash produced in thermal power plants which was thought to be a curse and detrimental to environment can be converted into very useful building material and is boon to the development of infrastructure.

The advent of modern technology into the chemistry of cement has changed the scenario in the recent decades and fly ash which is used as admixture in concrete is yielding the best results as building blocks, precast structures etc. He was inaugurating a one day workshop on “Use of Fly Ash adapting modern technology methods” at Shridevi Institute of Engineering And Technology, Tumakuru.

The government stressing on the importance of greener technology gaining momentum in development has formulated various eco friendly norms which are useful for entrepreneurs to develop industries for a stronger nation and he said in this regard – the KPCL is in its open mind to help the industrialists, builders by providing the fly ash free of cost including transportation.

He also stated that – if the engineers’ associations, chamber of commerce and industries and related organizations could come out with suggestions related to the development of industries using fly ash in and around Tumakuru; the KPCL would consider the suggestions and would take decisions benefiting the entrepreneurs. He also wished for a better interaction in this regard from various agencies such as District Industrial Centers, FCCI and Educational Institutions coming forward for carrying out Research and Development for a better future.

The principal of the institute Dr. Gurulingappa M. Patil delivered the keynote address; stressing the importance of use of Fly Ash and its importance in the durability of structures and thereby its positive impact on the economy of nation at large.

Dr. N. Kalidas, Director of Institute of Solid waste Research and Ecological Balance of Visakapatnam has stated that wonders can be created by the use of Fly ash adapting modern technologies such that the strength and durability properties of concrete can be enhanced. He also stated that high performance concrete can be created with a less amount of cement and a good amount of fly ash in proper proportions.

L. Nagaraju, Joint Director, District Industrial Center, Tumakuru has deliberated on various facilities and rules favoring the entrepreneurs from DIC for the development of industries invoived in greener technology and invited the entrepreneurs to make the best use of them.

Ramamurthy N V, President, Engineers’ Association, Tumakuru and A R Sreenath, President TDCCI, Tumakuru shared the dais on the occasion.

Dr. M. R. Yogananda from IISc, Bengaluru, C. Venugopal, ED, RTPS Raichur have conducted technical sessions for the participants.

Kum. Shalini presented the invocation, Dr. G. Shankar Rao, Deputy Director- CEDOK welcomed, Prof. C. Nagaraja Compeered; Smt. Tanuja gave the vote of thanks. A good number of builders, construction and consulting engineers, entrepreneurs, contractors, students and academicians participated in the workshop.
